Three people were killed and several others injured in an explosion on Thursday evening at a car repair workshop in the Libyan city of Sabratha, the local emergency service said.

The explosion, caused by a gas cylinder in the workshop, also resulted in the complete collapse of the workshop's roof, the Sabratha branch of the Emergency and Ambulance Service said on Facebook.

It also caused significant damage to the building and repair equipment, it said.

Sabratha is located 85 km west of the Libyan capital Tripoli.
