Agriculture Minister Martine Hansen urges EU action as fertiliser costs hit farms

Following the meeting of EU agriculture ministers in Brussels, Luxembourg's Minister of Agriculture, Martine Hansen, stated that the situation on the fertiliser market is placing many farming businesses under financial pressure.

The European Commission plans to draft a new action plan aimed at improving the EU's supply of fertilisers and reducing its dependence on external sources. Hansen is calling for quick and flexible measures to guarantee production and food security in Europe.

In this regard, Luxembourg is placing an emphasis on environmentally friendly fertiliser methods, among other approaches.

Another topic discussed was the labelling of the origin of food products. Hansen advocates for a clear "EU/non-EU" label to provide consumers with greater transparency and to strengthen European producers.

The tense situation on the milk market was also addressed on Tuesday. Despite high production levels, prices for producers are falling. Luxembourg intends to closely analyse the situation and is considering a potential voluntary reduction of deliveries.
