An Australian soldier died during a parachuting training course at Jervis Bay Airfield on the South Coast of New South Wales, the Australian Department of Defence said on Tuesday.
The Australian Defence Force confirmed that Warrant Officer Class Two Lachlan Muddle, a member of the Special Air Service Regiment, died in a parachute training accident at about 5:40 p.m. local time on Monday.
One other Australian Army soldier received minor injuries in the accident and did not require hospitalization, Defence said in a statement.
The Australian Defence Force has temporarily paused all parachuting training, according to Defence.
The accident followed several fatal training incidents involving Australian soldiers in recent years, including a parachuting accident in Sydney in 2024 and a vehicle rollover in Queensland in 2025.
