According to Dutch public broadcaster NOS, the incident occurred as spectators were lining the road for an annual light parade scheduled to travel from Elburg to Nunspeet. The car struck the waiting crowd at around 6:45 p.m. (1745 GMT).

The East Netherlands police said on social media platform X that the driver was a 56-year-old woman from Nunspeet. She was arrested as a suspect for causing a serious traffic accident. The driver sustained minor injuries.

Police said preliminary investigation found no indication of foul play, and a full investigation is ongoing.
