China's under-17 women's football team exited the World Cup on Tuesday with a 3-0 loss to Brazil in the round of 16.
China advanced to the knockout stage for the first time in the tournament's history by finishing second in Group C, while Brazil progressed as runner-up in Group A.
Brazil took an early lead when Kaylane broke down the right and scored from a tight angle in the third minute.
Trailing, China increased its attacking pressure but missed several chances. In the eighth minute, a defensive error presented Yu Tianzhen with a one-on-one, but her shot was saved by the goalkeeper. Three minutes later, Zhou Xinyi's effort from inside the box struck the woodwork and bounced out.
In first-half stoppage time, Zhang Kecan fouled in the area and Brazil was awarded a penalty, but Campillo hit the post.
After the break, Evelin Bonifacio doubled the lead in the 52nd minute with a long-range strike, then set up Giovana Iseppe to score from close range six minutes later.
China was unable to mount a late comeback, and the match finished 3-0, sending Brazil into the quarterfinals.
