An emergency warning has been issued for possible flash flooding in the Australian city of Brisbane amid severe rainfall.

A severe weather warning issued by the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) on Friday morning said that Brisbane and surrounding areas in the southeast region of the state of Queensland could receive up to 150 millimeters of rainfall over six hours on Friday.

Senior meteorologist Miriam Bradbury said in a release issued by the BoM that the heavy rainfall in a short period of time would likely lead to flash flooding across the area.

"That means roads, walkways and properties may see localized inundation and we could see extremely dangerous conditions out on the roads as well as possible power outages and traffic and transport delays," she said.

The BoM separately issued a flood watch for waterways across southeast Queensland, warning that minor to moderate flooding is possible from Friday and over the weekend.

It said that locally intense rainfall may cause significant flash flooding, including over densely populated areas within the watch zone.
