The Indonesian embassy in Cairo hosted an iftar gathering for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at the ambassador’s residence, bringing together friends and partners from across ASEAN and Egypt in the festive spirit of Ramadan.

The event was attended by ambassadors of ASEAN countries, diplomats, and representatives of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In his remarks, Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt Dr Kuncoro Giri Waseso emphasized the importance of strengthening friendship and cooperation between ASEAN countries and Egypt, reaffirming ASEAN’s commitment to continue joint work and develop relations with Egypt.

He added that the holy month of Ramadan carries noble human values of contemplation, mercy, and solidarity, noting that the tradition of collective iftar strengthens the spirit of community and bonds between friends and partners.

He expressed his happiness at hosting the Ramadan gathering, which brought together representatives of ASEAN countries and their partners and friends in Egypt, noting that the occasion provided an opportunity to strengthen communication and cooperation between the participating countries.

The ambassador said this year marks his first Ramadan in Egypt since taking up his post, stressing that such gatherings contribute to consolidating friendly relations and deepening understanding between ASEAN countries and Egypt.

The iftar included a diverse range of foods reflecting the rich heritage and culture of ASEAN countries, with various Asian flavours representing the culinary traditions of the association’s members.

The ambassador concluded by wishing that the blessed month of Ramadan brings peace, tranquillity, and joy to all, and that ties of cooperation and understanding continue among different societies.
