Tokyo stocks started Thursday on a weak note, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index dropping more than 2 percent after overnight declines on Wall Street amid concerns over rising tensions in the Middle East.
In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 1,367.20 points, or 2.13 percent, from Wednesday to 62,812.07.
The broader Topix index, meanwhile, was down 65.14 points, or 1.69 percent, at 3,782.46.
