Palestinians in the West Bank called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip during a large-scale gathering on Wednesday. The event was held to mark the 77th anniversary of the Nakba.
Nakba means "catastrophe" in Arabic. The term is often used to refer to the mass expulsion of Palestinians in 1948.
The gathering took place in Ramallah. The participants called on Israel to end its occupation.
They also urged the two sides to reach a ceasefire as soon as possible. One woman said: "First of all, they have to stop this aggression against Gaza. They have to withdraw from all the land of Gaza and they have to let the people give relief for our people."
A man stated that no more time should be wasted on negotiations. He noted that Israeli forces are "extensively killing Palestinians every day." Meanwhile, ceasefire talks have reportedly resumed in Qatar.
But Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made it clear that his military's attacks against the Islamic group Hamas will continue. On Wednesday, health authorities in Gaza reported that 20 people had been killed in the previous 24 hours.
They noted that 52,928 individuals have been killed in the territory since October 2023, when the current round of fighting began.
