A policeman was killed and another wounded in a clash with armed men in Iran's southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan province on Sunday, the official IRNA news agency reported.

The incident occurred in Zehak County when anti-narcotics police stopped a sedan suspected of involvement in drug trafficking, IRNA said.

The occupants opened fire on the officers, killing one and injuring another, who was taken to hospital. The attackers fled the scene, and security forces have launched a manhunt to capture them, the report added.

Sistan and Baluchestan, which borders Pakistan and Afghanistan, has long been a hotspot for armed groups and drug smuggling.
