The Rally of Houphouetists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP), the ruling party of Cote d'Ivoire, has secured a large majority in the National Assembly, winning 197 of the 255 seats following Saturday's legislative elections, said the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI) on Monday.

Across the country's 205 constituencies, the RHDP, led by President Alassane Ouattara, won 155 constituencies, totaling 197 seats.

The Democratic Party of Cote d'Ivoire obtained 32 seats in 25 constituencies, maintaining its status as the main opposition party, while the African Peoples' Party - Cote d'Ivoire did not field any candidates, having boycotted the elections.

In addition, independent candidates won 23 seats after prevailing in 22 constituencies.

Voter turnout in this election was 35.04 percent, a decrease of approximately 2.8 percentage points compared with 2021.

The CEI said any party or coalition that submitted candidates may contest the election within five days of the proclamation of the provisional results.
