S. Korea's export volume posts double-digit growth in March

South Korea's export volume posted a double-digit growth thanks to solid demand for locally-made semiconductors, central bank data showed Wednesday.

The export volume index surged 23.0 percent in March from a year earlier, continuing to climb since November last year, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).

In terms of volume, exports of computers, electronic and optical devices spiked 39.5 percent on the back of soaring demand for memory chips used for artificial intelligence (AI) chipsets.

Export volume for farm goods, chemical products and primary metal products expanded in double figures.

The export value index jumped 51.7 percent in March from a year earlier, faster than an increase of 28.6 percent in the previous month.

The import volume index mounted 12.3 percent in the cited month, and the import value index swelled 12.9 percent.

The net terms-of-trade index for goods, or a ratio of export price to import price, was up 22.8 percent in March on a yearly basis owing to a faster increase in export price than import price.
