Four people, including two U.S. embassy personnel and two Mexican officials, were killed in a vehicle accident in the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua, authorities from both countries said Sunday.

Chihuahua Attorney General Cesar Jauregui Moreno said the victims included Pedro Ramon Oseguera Cervantes, director of Mexico's State Investigation Agency, who had held the post since September 2025.

Oseguera Cervantes was traveling with two U.S. Embassy personnel when their vehicle plunged into a ravine in a remote area between the municipalities of Guachochi and Morelos. The U.S. personnel were instructors participating in routine training exchanges with Mexican authorities.

According to preliminary reports, the accident occurred on a difficult-to-access road. The U.S. personnel were taken to a hospital with severe injuries but later died, authorities said.

Another Mexican official traveling with the group was also killed.

U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ronald Johnson expressed condolences on social media, highlighting bilateral security cooperation and the risks faced by those combating organized crime.
