French President Emmanuel Macron said Sunday that a diplomatic solution is "more necessary than ever" to put an end to the escalation and preserve peace.

Macron made the remarks in a post on social media platform X after speaking with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian over phone.

In the post, Macron said he had reiterated France's strong concern over the development of Iran's nuclear and ballistic programs, as well as over all of its destabilizing activities in the region.

He also called on Iran to guarantee freedom of navigation by ending the de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

French news channel BFMTV reported that Macron also held a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday. No details of the call were disclosed for the moment.
