U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday in France that the United States and Iran might sign a memorandum of understanding as soon as Thursday or Friday.
He might stick around for the signing ceremony, Trump said at the conclusion of the G7 summit in Evian, France, adding that the deal may be the beginning of a much larger deal across the Middle East.
"It's appropriate that we release the agreement, and we did send a copy to Israel, by the way. They've been a good partner," Trump said during a press conference.
Since fighting broke out in late February, the U.S.-Iran war has spilled far beyond the region, disrupting energy supplies, reigniting inflationary pressures and unsettling financial markets.
The U.S. and Iran have electronically signed an MoU aimed at ending the war on Monday and had scheduled to officially sign it at a resort on Switzerland's Lake Lucerne on Friday.
