A Turkish Airlines plane caught fire in its landing gear tires when landing in Nepal's Tribhuvan International Airport on Monday morning, an official said.

The passengers were evacuated through the emergency door while firefighters doused the fire. Raj Kumar Silwal, spokesperson at Airport Security Office, said 276 passengers and 11 crew members were rescued safely.

As the incident occurred on the runway, landings and takeoffs at the airport have been obstructed. Efforts were underway to tow the plane towards the taxiway, said Gyanendra Bhul, information officer at the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.
