An Iraqi fighter jet carried out three airstrikes on Saturday targeting ISIS positions along the border area between the provinces of Kirkuk and Erbil in northern Iraq.
An Iraqi security source said the strikes targeted sites believed to be used by ISIS militants as hideouts, adding that the extent of the damage caused by the bombardment has not yet been determined.
The airstrikes came hours after Iraq's Counter-Terrorism Service announced that one ISIS militant had been killed in a security operation carried out near the town of Altun Kupri. Iraqi security forces continue operations to pursue the group's remaining cells in the area.
Iraqi forces are continuing efforts to track down remnants of ISIS across the country, as the group's militants continue to plan occasional armed attacks targeting members of the Iraqi army and police.
