The Israeli military said it detained dozens of Israeli civilians who attempted to cross the border into Syrian territory earlier Sunday.
According to the Israel Defense Forces, troops deployed to the scene, detained the suspects, and handed them over to police for further questioning.
The military condemned the attempted border crossing, describing it as "a serious incident" and "a criminal offense." It did not disclose the crossing location or further details about the incident.
Israeli media identified the detainees as settler activists from the group "Bashan Pioneers." The group has repeatedly tried to cross into Syria over the past year to build settlements, reportedly with backing from Israeli lawmakers.
