The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has revised projected tourist arrivals for 2025 to a record 2.3 million, state-run PSM News reported on Sunday.

In May, MMA said it expected arrivals to be 2.2 million. The revision of the forecast was based on a strong performance on the first half of the year, which saw a 9.1 percent year-on-year increase in international arrivals. By the end of June, 1,108,130 tourists had visited the country.

Besides, MMA has projected a record 2.4 million tourist arrivals next year.

Growth was also evident in the duration of stays, with total bed nights reaching 6,892,533 by mid-year, an increase of 1.2 percent over the same period last year, data shows.

MMA said favorable market conditions and recent infrastructure enhancements, including the operationalization of the new passenger terminal at Velana International Airport, underpin its revised projections.
